Montenegro's hopes of sporting a twin tower duo of Nikola Pekovic and Nikola Vucevic were broken at the beginning of August with the former skipping EuroBasket in order to clarify his contract situation in the NBA. However, the inside presence remains impressive, despite Vucevic flying the NBA flag solo. The 22-year-old big man has enjoyed a breakout season with the Orlando Magic, averaging a double-double of 13.1 points and 11.9 boards-a-night in his second year pro stateside. His performances included a franchise-record 29 rebounds on 31 December 2012, against the Miami Heat. Vucevic's way to the big basketball stage was paved early, with both his parents playing professional basketball, his father Borislav a member on the Bosna Sarajevo team that won the European Cup For Men's Champion Clubs in 1979. Born in Switzerland and raised in Belgium, his path led him via Montenegro for high school and college, before being drafted to the NBA. Aggressive on the glass, smart on defence and armed with a well-rounded offensive skillset, Vucevic is yet to reach his full potential, and does not look like leaving the limelight anytime soon.
