| 05.09.2012 EUROBASKET QUALIFIERS | Mirza Teletovic was clutch for Bosnia and Herzegovina, making the team's last five points to seal the victory

Bosnia and Herzegovina moved to within touching distance of a spot in next year's EuroBasket by winning at Georgia on Wednesday. Aleksandar Petrovic's team prevailed 107-103 for their fifth victory in seven games. Heading into the clash, Bosnia and Herzegovina knew that if they prevailed, they would only need to win their last Qualification Round game at home on Saturday against Romania, who are 1-5 going into that clash, to seal a spot in the Final Round. Georgia had won the first encounter between the sides in Sarajevo by a single point so they will now lose a potential tie-breaker to the Bosnians should the teams finish with the same record. On Wednesday, the Georgians had home-court advantage and were making it count when they went in front by seven early in the second half. Instead of pulling away, the home fans were left frustrated as the visiting side dug in its heels and went in front at 64-62 later in the third quarter on a jumper by Mirza Teletovic. After Tornike Shengelia, Teletovic's Brooklyn Nets teammate for the coming season, leveled the contest at 64-64, Bosnia point guard Zackary Wright made a lay-up to reclaim the lead and to go to 23 points. The lead went back and forth until Teletovic buried a shot from the arc with 5:31 remaining. That put the visitors in front, 88-85, and started a 7-0 run. Georgia held their nerve, reeling off seven unanswered points to lead, 98-97. Manuchar Markoishvili made two free-throws to spark the run that was finished by Jacob Pullen's driving lay-up. With 27 seconds to go, Markoishvili struck from behind the arc for a 103-102 Georgia advantage. No team that has Teletovic is out of contention until the final buzzer sounds. He immediately nailed a three-pointer to put his Bosnia and Herzegovina back in front. After a Georgia timeout, Pullen missed from the arc and Teletovic added two free-throws. Markoishvili missed a three-pointer two seconds from the end and Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated a famous victory. Teletovic ended up with 25 points. Markoishvili had 21 points and Zaza Pachulia 21 with 11 rebounds for Georgia. The Georgians next face Latvia in Riga, having won the first meeting by three points. Latvia were 3-2 heading into their game at the Netherlands later on Wednesday. |
