| 24.08.2012 Bogdan Tanjevic, Turkey head-coach: "We played an excellent game. Tonight Portugal was very dangerous and played very well. They had five rebounds more and more steals than us. But generally we made more two- point shots. We gave less time to the experienced players [and used some of our young players]. Young players like Şafak Edge gave us a lot of energy. Our problem even in the [2010] World Championship was the percentage of free throws. So many games were lost by two points so it's very important [to improve on this]. The game against the Czechs is one of the most important ones. We will try our best. We know that they're a good team. We should rest and try to repeat the first 35 minutes of our game against Italy." Şafak Edge, Turkey: "This was my first official game with the senior team! This was a game we had to win. We were in front of our own fans so we had the home advantage. Now we have the Czech game in front of us. We will try to do our best. " Mario Palma , Portugal head-coach: "I think Portugal played a good game. We had more rebounds but we had a problem in field-goal shooting. Our shooting percentage was 31. Turkey has great players. We didn't have easy shots. We allowed a lot of three-point attempts. You can't win against teams like Turkey when you play a very bad quarter. Tonight we started making mistakes and after [the difference] reached 14 points it was hard for us to recover. In the end I'm very happy with my players. We shot 20 more times than Turkey. They have a new team. We played against Turkey a year ago but this is a new one with young players." Joao Santos, Portugal: "Our team battled against a very good team. We knew that the Turkish team was in good condition. They play very good basketball. They have many options in offense. They're very tall and athletic. It's not easy to play against them. We ended up allowing a lot of three-point shots and they had a very good percentage. I think we need to keep working against these teams. " |
