The Spain National Tourist Board (TURESPAÑA) joined the family of FIBA Global Partners in 2010 with the aim to enhance the level of awareness of Spain as a tourism destination among sports and basketball lovers throughout the world. TURESPAÑA's ultimate ambition is to bring the best of basketball to the worldwide community with the 2014 FIBA World Championship which will be held in its territory.

The offer of sporting events in Spain is one of the best in the world and is of great appeal and interest to both national and international audiences. Basketball in particular is a very popular sport with the country being home to highly-reputed national events (National League, Copa del Rey Tournament) as well as major international competitions (upcoming FIBA World Championship, Euroleague Final Four, NBA Europe Tour). As well as having an excellent range of sports entertainment, Spain also offers a wide range of high quality international sporting talents, one of which is its national basketball team - the two-time reigning European Champions.

It is TURESPAÑA's mission to ensure the enjoyment of sport "made in Spain" is an essential part of a very important touristic offer and also a clear differentiating element in the international market - becoming one of the cornerstones of TURESPAÑA's new strategic plan.

As administrative unit of the Central Government in charge of promoting Spain abroad as a tourism destination, TURESPAÑA carries out its activities in the following areas:

  • Planning, development and execution of activities aimed at promoting Spain as a tourism destination in the international markets.
  • Support of the marketing of Spanish tourism products abroad in cooperation with the regional and local authorities and the private sector.
  • Establishing the strategy, plan of action and investments for new establishments of Paradores de Turismo de España S.A.

 

In order to effectively achieve its goals, TURESPAÑA carries out promotional and marketing activities abroad through a network of 33 Tourist offices.
