Estonia put the pressure on Serbia by beating Iceland, 80-58, in their final EuroBasket qualifier. Serbia must now beat Israel later tonight to take (at least) third place in Group A and advance to EuroBasket 2013. If they fail, Estonia will take the place. The Estonians improved to 6-4 after overwhelming Iceland in the second quarter to take control of the game. Iceland had closed to within 24-22 at the end of the first quarter, but Gregor Arbet's three-pointer sparked a 14-3 Estonia run that had them up 40-27 on Martin Dorbek's jump-shot with three minutes left in the first half. The gap hit 17 on a three-pointer from Reinar Hallik late in the first half as Estonia went up 47-32 at half-time and they continued to pull away in the third quarter. Hallik's free throws made it 61-41 and a three from Siim-Sander Vene early in fourth had the score at 69-43. Vene led Estonia with 23 points while Arbet added 11 and Dorbek had 10 with eight rebounds. Jon Stefansson had 13 points for Iceland, with Jakob Sigurdarson adding 12, Hlynur Baeringsson 11 and Haukar Palsson 10. |
