Lipko is based on the linden tree, which in the nineties became a Slovenian symbol. Even today, the linden tree maintains its symbolical significance with the Slovenian people. For generations the linden tree has held significance in Slovenian history, with generation-after-generation of Slovenian people gathering under the branches of the tree to make important decisions. Therefore, Lipko is derived from the wisdom of the Slovenian people.
What is the story of Lipko?
Lipko is a combination of nature and man. With Slovenia being one of the greenest countries in Europe, symbols from nature are significant in illustrating Slovenia, hence the birth of Lipko. Lipko is 21-years old, the same age as the young independent country he is representing. Lipko symbolises the meaning of the EuroBasket 2013, the biggest sporting event in Slovenian history.

Lipko is the first so-called EuroBasket green mascot. That is why he contains special symbolical power. As an aside to representing EuroBasket 2013 and Slovenia, Lipko also depicts a positive attitude towards nature and the environment, making him not only a mascot, but also a role model.
