Kostas Kaimakoglou was one of the players affected by the grand exodus from Panathinaikos after the departure of coach Zeljiko Obradovic last summer, but he made the most of the situation and enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career with Kazan, leading the Russian side in scoring and rebounding in the VTB United League, while he was also their second-leading scorer in the Eurocup. On offence, he provides a strong, physical presence in the low post but more often than not he will stretch the floor and shoot from long range, while on defence he can effectively mark forwards of varying sizes and characteristics, either close to, or away from the rim. His pending task with the national team is to finally translate his versatility into head-turning stat lines, but if he carries over the impetus his previous last club season, EuroBasket 2013 could very well be the tournament where this breakthrough takes place.
