Jan Vesely (Czech Republic)
Born : 24.04.1990
Place of birth: Moravska Ostrava
Geoplin Slovan (Slovenia-Telemach Liga, 2007-08); Partizan Belgrade (Serbia-Kosarkaska liga, 2008-11); Washington Wizards (USA-NBA, 2011-13)
The only Czech player currently in the NBA made a name of himself during his three seasons with Partizan Belgrade between 2008 and 2011 with whom he also reached the Euroleague Final Four in 2010 and a near cult status with the club's fans. He had been tipped for great things after he was picked at number 6 by the Washington Wizards in the 2011 NBA draft and he was off to a promising start in his first season appearing in 57 games (20 starts) and averaging 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds-per-game. But Vesely's second year in the NBA was an one to forget as he saw less action, rather than more, dropping down to only four starts with 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds-per-game. Ironically that might be a blessing in disguise for coach Budinsky as the charismatic player will come hungry for a ball game and eager to prove that he deserves better on the other side of the pond. His credentials still retain validity: Vesely was the FIBA Europe 2010 Young Men's Player of the Year while he was runner-up for the Euroleague's Rising Star Trophy in 2010 and third in 2011.
