| 24.08.2012 EUROBASKET QUALIFIERS | | Aliaksandr Kudrautsau was, once again, the go-to guy in the Belarus team |
Italy made it four wins out of four in Group F of the EuroBasket qualifying round as they cruised to a 84-63 victory over Belarus. Italy finished on a 10-0 run to add an exclamation mark to a game they had led from the start. The prospects of Italy taking victory over the winless hosts rarely looked in danger as they jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the opening four and a half minutes. Belarus battled back to make it close early in the second quarter but an 8-1 Italy run had them 36-25 up with four minutes left in the first half. The lead was just four, 41-37, early in the second half, but Italy began to pull away late in the third period, with Luigi Datome hitting back-to-back three-pointers before another bomb from Giuseppe Poeta made it 58-41. Belarus got back to within eight when Aliaksandr Kudrautsau's lay-up made it 69-61 with 3:27 to go, but Datome's three and a jump-shot from Andrea Cinciarini pulled Italy clear and they made it look easy with the closing run. Datome led Italy with 22 points while Danilo Gallinari had 19 - 16 of them in the first half. Poeta finished with 11 and Pietro Aradori collected 10. Kudrautsau had 19 points for Belarus but was the only player to get into double figures. |
