Israel levelled their EuroBasket qualifying record at 2-2 as they cruised to a straightforward 82-64 road win over the Slovak Republic. Israel broke the game open early in the second quarter, with a 7-0 run putting them 36-23 up when Alex Tyus got up to slam home Gal Mekel's alley-oop pass. The visitors got off to another hot start after half-time, with a 16-4 run making it 63-39 on Tyus' dunk with 5:29 left in the third period Their lead grew to as much as 24, 69-45, on Omri Casspi's fast-break lay-up with 2:12 left in the period. When Ido Kozikaro made a lay-up early in the fourth it was 74-47 and the contest was effectively over. Israel turned to their bench and the hosts did what they could to cut into the deficit, with a late three from Martin Bilik making it 80-64 before Mekel ended the game with a lay-up. Tyus led Israel with 18 points while Lior Eliyahu had 14. Gavel came up with 22 points for the Slovak Republic, but was the only player to score in double figures. |
