A fantastic fifth consecutive success for Finland in kept them perfect and in the box-seat to progress from Group E after Shawn Huff and Roope Ahonen shot the lights out in a comprehensive 95-52 victory in Albania. The Finnish duo were picture-perfect from three-point range in an incredibly display of perimeter shooting - one of the best witnessed in the competition so far. Each player made a flawless five of five from the arc to put their opponent to the sword and take Finland to the cusp of successful qualification, although they are still being chased down hard by Poland and Belgium. Albania scored the first basket of the game but this was all they saw of the lead, despite the best efforts of the irrepressible Endrit Hysenagolli who helped his team keep in touch at 34-32 shortly before half-time. But the Finns found a new gear when they stepped out for the third quarter, blasting Albania away by 30-9 to take a firm grip of the game and ensure victory. Hysenagolli had a creditable 27 points for the home side whilst the sharp-shooting of Huff and Ahonen resulted in 23 and 19 points respectively for the winning team. Sasu Salin also joined the three-point party by contributing another four triples. |
