Hungary came from behind to finish their EuroBasket Qualifying Round campaign with a 63-58 victory over winless Cyprus in Group C.
The win puts Hungary level with third-placed Austria, although neither team's 3-5 record is good enough for them to join Croatia and Ukraine at the EuroBasket Final Round next year.
It took some effort for Hungary to win this final game as Cyprus, determined not to finish 0-8, exploded out of the blocks early on, ending the first quarter with a 20-6 lead after Andreas Pilavas's driving lay-up.
The gap was 16 on Andreas Sizopoulos's three early in the second before Hungary found some rhythm, reeling off 12 straight points to make it 29-25 on Peter Lorant's free throws.
They had closed to within 31-29 at half-time and quickly took the lead at the start of the third with a three from Marton Fodor.
That came amid a 17-0 run that started late in the second quarter and continued until Obie Trotter's three put Hungary 42-31 up.
Hungary controlled the game the rest of the way, although Cyprus rallied at the finish, turning a 61-50 gap with 2:49 to go into a five-point deficit at the finish after Christopher Razis's three.
Lorant led Hungary with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Trotter scored 11.
Sizopoulos had 15 points and Panagiotis Trisokkas 12 for Cyprus.
