EUROBASKET QUALIFIERS

Center Marcin Gortat registered a double-double in points and rebounds to ensure Poland would leave Switzerland with the win

Marcin Gortat inspired Poland to their first win of the EuroBasket Qualification Round as they topped Switzerland, 80-66, on the road on Saturday.

Bouncing back from the loss to Belgium earlier this week, Poland dominated the opening three quarters to set up the win.

And nobody did more than the ever-reliable Gortat, who had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead all scorers in the game.

Switzerland finished the game on a 12-2 run but it did little to mask the comfortable nature of Poland's win.

Poland began to take control of the game late in the first quarter, with Gortat's jump-shot putting them in front before Lukasz Koszarek nailed a three.

That was the start of a 9-0 run that continued into the second period, and they led 40-32 at half-time.

In the third quarter, they put the hosts to the sword with a 10-2 run making it 50-36 on Lukasz Wisniewski's and-one play.

When Jakub Wojciechowski made a jump-shot late in the period, it was 61-42 and the lead hit 67-46 on Robert Skibniewski's three early in the fourth.

Another three from Dardan Berisha made it 78-54 with 2:16 to go, and although Switzerland then reeled off 12 straight, including threes from Oliver Vogt and Derek Stockalper, it was too little, too late.

Koszarek added 13 points for Poland, with Michal Ignerski collecting 12 and Berisha 10.

Dusan Mladjan had 14 points for Switzerland, with Ramseier adding 12 and Vogt 11.
